Among the many local clubs and organisations, Lowton Riding Centre offers its facilities for all ages and abilities, as does Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club based on Pennington Flash, a 70 hectare lake near Leigh. For spectating pleasure, there is Haydock Park, the premier racecourse in the north west. It offers 30 days horse racing a year, as well as a host of other attractions including events and exhibitions. For an even gentler time, then try a stroll through Byrom Wood, where a circular trail meanders through woodland and open meadow.
Also of interest is Lowton Community Sports College, the focus of much community activity. As well as sporting excellence, the college offers a wide range of off-site activities designed to develop their students’ independence and confidence.
